Born on July 20, 1959, in the tiny village of Allccamenca, Ayacucho, Claudio, is one of the most respected artisan in their dedication to preserving, studying, and developing the traditional art of Retablo making.
His father, Florentino Jimenez Toma, one of the most famous artisans in Peru, taught Claudio as well as the rest of the family, the art of Retablo making. Claudio’s older brother Nicario has been credited with influencing the transformation of the Retablo from a purely Indian amulet and ceremonial item to folk-art made for sale.
